As I recited my summer saying, “God is doing good things today,” a new thought occurred to me. Of course God is doing good. God is good.[1] He can’t do bad things—that would be against his nature. Every single thing God does will be good, because that’s who he is.
On top of that, the Bible says God is love.[2] God loves us all, and would do anything—even sacrifice his son—to help us.[3] God doesn’t just do good things because he must—he wants to do them because he loves us.
This simple insight into God’s character and essence gave me confidence to “know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him” (Romans 8:28, emphasis added). It removed any misgivings I had, and clarified my understanding of God’s role in the world. Now, whenever I wonder, “What is God going to do?” my response is “Something good!”
just beautiful kris! i love reading your insights.
